July 12th, 2014 Volunteers

Sincere Thank You to All July 12th Volunteers!

The staff and board of Pope Memorial Frontier Animal Shelter are extending a hearty THANK YOU to all the volunteers who worked so hard to make such wonderful improvements at the facility on Saturday, July 12. So much was accomplished that it’s a challenge to list everything – from painting walls and cupboards, to replacing screens in many windows, repairing dog yards and filling in around the shelter with pea stone, replacing cables on doors in the dog kennels, and the list goes on!

A big THANK YOU also to the organizations that partnered together to support this event – Greater Good Organization and Pedigree Dog Food for their Shelter Renovation Project Grant and Animal Lifeline which provided three builders who drove here from other states to lead the projects.

We acknowledge that on such a beautiful summer Saturday, everyone had other options, and perhaps more enjoyable ones. Yet you all decided to spend a few hours or all day working to make the shelter a better place for our furry friends – all the dogs and cats that call the shelter their home for now. For this we are extremely appreciative!

THANK YOU to you all!

ORLEANS- A record setting career as a field hockey and ice hockey goalie for Nicole Ludwig didn't end making saves when she graduated from North Country Union High School. PMFAS Volunteers – We Salute You!

EventsOn October 24, Pope Memorial Frontier Animal Shelter celebrated the value of volunteerism by hosting an appreciation dinner for current volunteers and friends at the Eastside Restaurant in Newport. In this photo, taken by volunteer Lisa Robinson, Doe Ruggles (right forefront) expresses congratulations to Ruth Gjessing. Both women have volunteered at the shelter for many years. While Doe spends most of her volunteer time working with and walking the dogs, Ruth’s passion is the spay/neuter clinic for cats and kittens. The number of hours expended by both of these volunteers is innumerable and invaluable, yet it represents only a fraction of the hours spent by all the volunteers combined throughout the year. In the background of the photo, Audrey Rockwell (left) is both surprised and pleased as she converses with Amy Mariotti. Audrey works at the shelter through the VT Associates Program and knows each of the cats by name and by their particular likes and dislikes.
